CAMMHS Cheerleading Clinic Day 1 Recap

Hello all!

This is a recap of today's clinic.  Today, we did introductions, went over the general schedule (to be posted later), covered the rules and filled out information forms.  We went over cheer hand positions, arm positions, preps (for jumps), and two elementary jumps.  Later this week, Attucks Tigers Cheerleading will post instructional videos for everything that was covered today.

It is very important that those who wish to take part in cheerleading next season are present for cheerleading clinics and workshops this summer.  There are new techniques that will be presented for the first time this summer and strength training will be a part of the regimen as well.  If you are seriously considering trying out for next year's team, you shouldn't miss it.

2013 Summer Clinic Rules

Every functional team has a set of rules by which each member must abide.  What follows are the rules that govern our practices and meetings this summer.

2013 Cheer Clinic Rules*
(*subject to modification)

1. Be on Time
-Be properly dressed, present (mentally and physically) and ready for practice at 2:45pm.

2. Respect Others and Yourself
-Show Respect for the coach and all teammates
      -No Put Downs
      -No Cursing
      -Clean Up After Yourself
-Tell the coach if you need to leave the practice area
-Be an excellent ambassador for Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School at all times

3. Try Your Best...Every Time
-Work to get better every day

Consequences

Whenever there are rules, there have to be consequences for breaking the rules.  (But, it won't come to this, right?)

If you break the rules, you will be subject to the following consequences: Extra laps, push-ups, sit-ups, jumps, etc.

If you are in constant violation of the rules, you may be asked to excuse yourself from practice and/or the remainder of cheer clinics for the summer.

On the other hand, there will be positive consequences for doing the right thing.  Awesome right?
So come in, do your best and you may find that you will be rewarded in unexpected ways.

That's it for now :)

Information about cheer clinics

What are cheer clinics?

Cheer clinics are a chance for all Crispus Attucks students to learn about cheerleading and begin to build cheer skills.  You do not need to have cheer experience to participate.  You will be taught cheer basics and beginning skills in advance of cheer tryouts later this year.  So, please do not feel discouraged if you have no cheer experience, all are welcome!  If you do have cheer experience, this will be a chance to sharpen these skills and work on new material.

Why should I come?
It is important to note that if you wish to try out for the cheerleading squad in the fall, it will be to your advantage to take part in the clinics.  This year, we are starting anew and there are no guaranteed spots on the team.  In addition to trying-out, each member of the 2013-14 CAMMHS Cheer Squad will need to prove to the cheer staff that they are willing to work hard and be excellent school ambassadors in order to earn a spot on the team.  Active participation, good attendance, promptness and general excellence throughout clinics are all good ways to demonstrate that you are able and willing to commit to this team.  Also, these clinics are going to be pretty fun, so you won't want to miss out!

Final Notes
Please take note of the proper attire for clinics (consult the previous post and/or flyers posted around the school).  You will not be admitted if you are not dressed properly.  Also make sure to bring a water bottle and a healthy snack (you will not be permitted to leave the building until your ride home arrives).  Be prepared to stay until 5pm both Tuesday and Wednesday.  The remainder of the clinic schedule will be handed out on Wednesday.
